The Island - On the sea - UNDERWATER WORLD The sea around Giannutri is one of the best places for scuba diving in the Mediterranean Sea, because of the spectacular beauty, its shallow depths, and the innumerable varieties of fishes that you can find. |
|
In the underwater scenery you can see: underwater cliffs, caves, poseidon grasslands, gorgons, sea roses, sea horses, marine star fish, coral, sea-urchins, dentex, sargo, sea-sponges, and also shipwreck relicts that sunk caused by the underwater rock formation that is unseen above water level. The coast is rocky everywhere and the water is very deep in certain areas, with the exception of two tiny sandy shores: Cala Maestra and Cala Spalmatoio (village). It is possible –even if rare- to see a dolphin, a turtle or a whale, particularly during the crossing from Giannutri to the Tuscany coast of or vice-versa. |
In Giannutri, however, you should always keep in mind two important facts: · - The island is a Marine Park and it is prohibited to anchor motor boats, or yachts along the major part of the coast · - You will not find on Giannutri any refueling gasoline pumps or dry dock assistance stations, nor a specialized medical aid. Those who would like to go scuba- diving in a group or attend courses, should refer to Diving Centers located elsewhere, on Giglio Island or at Argentario, on the Tuscany coast.
